I did nothing special on the 4th and I am not a big fan of special celebrations. We have tremendous freedoms in this counry, and yes, we have tremendous problems to cope with. But we were never promised that life here is meant to be easy. My hope is that people appreciate daily the freedoms we have compared to others around the globe, are thankful for these, and live accordingly. Celebrating what we have has become too much of a one day event for too many people.

John, I worked on the 4th of July but it was fun afterward because this was the little guys first exposure to fireworks.
As far as how I feel about how the Declaration of Independence and how it has shaped us as a country? It is my opinion that it, and what it says is often forgotten for if one was to read it, they would find that we are becoming the type of government that led us to draft the document in the first place. 2 report abuse

We had a Brazilian-style barbecue, had the Brazilian church over after fireworks and had Brazilian snacks. Most all of this was arranged by my wife, who is Brazilian. What a great way to celebrate U.S. independence -- with immigrants!
